The Director of Public Relations is responsible for developing the overall public relations strategy for the entire Nemours enterprise and leading the team of Associates responsible for its implementation in all locations and channels. Position can be located in Jacksonville FL, Orlando FL or Wilmington DE. This individual will provide leadership for Nemours to enhance and protect its reputation regionally and nationally through media relations, proactive issues management, social media content development, storytelling programs, thought leadership opportunities, strategic partnerships, and metric driven strategic communications planning. The Director of Public Relations will spearhead efforts to integrate the public relations team across geographic locations with a focus on sharing consistent messages and standardizing process, identifying and deploying innovative communications approaches and tools. A key liaison with Nemours’ senior executives, the Director of Public Relations will ensure communications strategies are fully-aligned with all business development, brand, government relations and philanthropic initiatives.Primary Responsibilities Media Relations - Establishes a strong proactive media relations program fostering an effective and sustainable working relationship with key local and national media stakeholders
- Utilize a keen sense of the editorial process for an array of news organizations including national news outlet, healthcare trades and local news organizations; use this understanding to refine public relation team’s strategy to earn positive coverage.
- Manage and expand online newsroom
- Oversee media training program
- Collaborates with other administrative, operational, clinical and communications functions to ensure a coordinated and integrated media message
- Advises senior leadership on strategic initiatives that include a media relations component
Reputation and Issues Management - Identify and monitor risks and opportunities for Nemours reputation
- Collaborates with business partners to define Nemours position on various issues and proactively preempts and mitigates risk to reputation
- Spearhead the management of issues which could negatively impact the reputation of Nemours; manages integration of reputation management into communications channels and messaging platforms
Strategy - Lead both proactive and reactive annual communications planning
- Reflects a commitment to mission understanding of Nemours outreach and advocacy goals
- Develop strong relationships with Nemours leaders in order to stay consistently aware of strategies, achievements or developments that should influence public relations strategy and digital content development.
- Ensure nonprofit partnerships further the community’s understanding of Nemours and provide a strong return on investment.
- Actively identifies opportunities for thought leadership and works closely with Director of Executive Communications to support amplification of executive messaging platforms through effective and sustainable communication channels.
Operations - Build process and structure specific to enterprise–wide public relations and media engagement
- Skillfully manage the budget of a variety of projects, keeping them at or under-budget while still achieving results that exceed expectations.
- Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams in order to successfully lead the organization’s public relations efforts.
- Provide primary supervision for vendors and contractors, including Nemours’ public relations firms, ensuring teams are providing the best-possible work which is aligned to Nemours strategy and within budget.
- Establish metric and milestones to achieve maximum benefit within this channel
- Track and report out on all media activity, performance, trending and bench marking
Performance Skills - Business Acumen
- Tactical Understanding of social media platforms
- Experience developing strategy and providing communications support in a Matrix environment to prepare and coach the CEO for media encounters that advance the organization’s strategic goals.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication with proven ability to develop and execute communication strategies and plans to advance organizational performance. Understanding of executive communication and how it relates to and strengthens other organizational communication.
- Experience keeping Associates informed of business strategy to assure and engaged, satisfied and informed work force.
- Ability to develop strategy and communication to support the CEO in improving organizational effectiveness and stakeholder relations.
Qualifications - BA/BS degree required; MBA preferred
- Minimum of five years of experience in executive support at the C-Suite level required
