The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) is the world's largest archive of social science data. We are now accepting applications for a Senior Data Curator. Senior Data Curators gain a functional understanding of research studies using the data and documentation deposited and convey that understanding to secondary researchers through the creation of summary descriptions, metadata and other study documents, while also assisting new and junior staff. The Senior Data Curator reports to the Data Curation Supervisor.
Major responsibilities include:
Prepare social science research data and related materials for permanent archiving and dissemination:
Process increasingly complex studies
Review data for issues related to respondent confidentiality
Use SPSS, SAS or Stata to review, clean, recode, and verify research data
Experience developing and editing codebooks, especially using the DDI system
Write study-level metadata descriptions
Prepare data and documentation for cataloging and release as ICPSR archival products
Conduct peer work reviews during multiple stages of curation process, and help determine workflow for team members' data collections
Update reference materials and train new team members
Communication with ICPSR staff and external partners:
Communicate with ICPSR staff in other units, data producers, and depositors to resolve issues of incompleteness
Communicate project status and discuss project priorities with supervisor.
Bachelor’s degree in social science or a related field
Advanced knowledge of social science research methods and survey design
2+ years of related experience in each of the following:
Data curation including cleaning, recoding, and performing descriptive statistical procedures
Experience with any of the following programs: SAS, SPSS, Stata, R, SQL, Excel (for data management, e.g., perform complex functions, write advanced macros)
Reading and summarizing technical documents
Organizing and prioritizing assignments, and applying oral and written instructions and procedures
Experience completing peer work reviews
