We are seeking an experienced Lighting Designer with a positive mindset and collaborative approach to join the Lighting Design Studio at CallisonRTKL Architects P.C. located in New York City. The Lighting Design Studio works globally with our Commercial, Customer Experience (CX), Hospitality, Healthcare, Retail, Sustainability, and Workplace teams.

As a Lighting Designer, you will collaborate with a team of managers, lighting designers and other team members to develop design ideas, concept presentations, models, mock-ups, details, specifications, and project drawings, while coordinating with clients and other stakeholder representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates and leads during all phases of a project from concept to construction administration
  • Works closely with managers to review work for design integrity, accuracy, clarity, and quality
  • Interacts well with other disciplines and clients in a manner that builds and stewards productive relationships
  • Generates development design concepts, presentations, details, and contract documents
  • Establishes and maintains project budgets related to lighting scope of work
  • Researches new products, working methods, and technology trends within the lighting design profession
  • Researches materials, building codes, and specifications as they relate to lighting strategies
  • Writes lighting specifications and control narratives
  • Navigates critical and controversial issues with appropriate parties
  • Attends on-site meetings with clients, contractors, and project team members

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience in architectural lighting design preferred
  • Exceptional design and visual graphic presentation skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize and concurrently service multiple projects
  • Proficient in lighting design principles, photometry metrics, and light source qualities
  • Proficient in AGI32 and/or DIALux photometric analysis software
  • Proficient in Daylight analysis software preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and related Autodesk workflows
  • Proficient in Revit and related BIM workflows (document creation, family management, BIM360) preferred
  • Proficient in 3D modeling programs (3DS Max, Rhino, or SketchUp) preferred
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) preferred
  • Proficient in MS 365 (Office and Excel)
  • Proficient in Bluebeam preferred
  • LEED accreditation preferred
