WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Public Relations Manager is responsible for the implementation of various earned media/public relations strategies and tactics that advance Midan’s and clients’ business goals. The Public Relations Manager will provide strategic direction and messaging for corporate communications programs and written communications, including electronic and print, company publications, media, press releases, and customer communications. The person in this role is constantly on the lookout to enhance, build and protect the reputation of Midan and our clients. This is a highly entrepreneurial position. You’ll also get to:

- Ideate and execute day-to-day earned media/PR activities for Midan and clients
- Understand and utilize brand journalism/writing. Tell journalism-style stories that entice the audience to want to know more
- Manage the public relations team and provide guidance to team members who support client programs
- Develop and implement strategic PR programs to achieve significant increases in brand awareness
- Editorial planning: Conduct regular editorial meetings with key leaders and actively pursue opportunities identified.
- In collaboration with Midan’s media buying and social content strategy teams, build and maintain editorial calendars for relevant media outlets to correlate with Midan's expertise as well as client industries that can be leveraged
- Turn complex concepts into compelling stories that will resonate with our client's target audiences
- Pitch stories, where appropriate, to national, local, and trade media to achieve the highest visibility in print, broadcast, TV, and online media outlets
- Support copywriting, proofreading, and copy editing for client and Midan PR projects
- Write press releases, interview talking points, blog posts, and articles
- Work hand-in-hand with Midan’s creative and account stakeholders as well as customer insights to transform insights and activity into content that will pique the interest of prospective leads or entice journalists to ask for more.
- Develop and maintain relationships with reporters and editors at client-related trade publications
- Secure press coverage on client and Midan products and initiatives
- Identify key media outlets, media trends, news cycles, and spin opportunities
- Develop public relations plans for clients that support their business goals and strategic mission
- Provide media training to clients, as needed
- Develop crisis management plans and protocols; advise clients during crisis situations
- Daily monitoring of industry-related publications and distribution of relevant industry information to the client and internal teams
- Ensure a plan is in place to monitor/track/report on earned/owned media coverage, including online brand sentiment, and other valuable metrics set as priorities per the firm
- Schedule speaking engagements: In-person and virtual speaking events such as webinars, podcasts, online conferences, and other digital format events, when appropriate. Also responsible for collaborating with the speaker to support the creation of accompanying presentation decks and talking points, and working with the speaker to be fully prepared
- Identify areas where the Midan team can improve efficiencies and help implement tools to achieve them

- REQUIRED: Five to seven years in public relations and communications
- Two to three years of campaign management experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Established relationships with general business, consumer, and food trade press/analyst/blogger communities
- Strategic thinker and extremely detail-oriented
- Ability to brainstorm ideas to extend PR efforts into already existing campaigns
- Strong understanding of how to effectively integrate content marketing, media relations, social, inbound, and demand generation programs
- Past agency or media experience preferred
Education, Training, and Network
- Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public/media relations, or related field
- Proficiency with basic computer and PR applications including Google, News Alerts, and MS Office apps (Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Additional technology experience is given priority (Muck Rack, Meltwater, WordPress, video blogging)
- Avid consumer of news, food, and pop culture
- Strong personal interest in food with a focus on meat
