The Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is looking for an accomplished professional in public relations. The competitive candidate will have general experience in the entire field but show particular ability in teaching public relations writing.
Advertising – Public Relations is the largest area-of-study in the Hussman school. The candidate will also teach one class per semester from the school's advertising-public relations curriculum, relevant to their area(s) of expertise. We ask that applicants review the school's advertising-public relations curriculum (http://hussman.unc.edu/ug/major/MEJO and https://catalog.unc.edu/courses/mejo/ and indicate in their cover letter which courses they believe they would be qualified to teach.
The successful candidate will also serve on school and university committees as well as take part in the life of the school. Besides helping with the variety of service requirements to keep the school successfully moving forward, the candidate will be expected to mentor undergraduate and master's students and provide them with networking opportunities.
Education and Experience:
Because strong writing skills are critical to success in modern communications, the well-rounded professional will need to reinforce strong, core writing skills based on AP Style and generally accepted journalism standards, and also be comfortable with the distinct demands of repurposing original content and using Twitter, Facebook, Tik Tok and other digital platforms to amplify messages and gain followers and readers.
