Reporting to the Dean, the Director ??? Curator/Exhibitions and Public Programs of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) will assume a full range of curatorial responsibilities for the School???s core exhibitions program in the Arthur Ross Architecture Galley, as well as all spaces of the School - from the central floor of Avery Hall to various global sites. All School spaces are inhabited by thematic and timely exhibitions of student and faculty work as well as external materials. The Director ??? Curator/Exhibitions and Public Programs will craft an ambitious program of temporary exhibitions, research and scholarly publications, and will work closely with the Dean, faculty and students to foster significant and sustained curricular and scholarly engagement.
The Director - Curator/Exhibitions and Public Programs is responsible for researching, planning, publicizing, and managing the execution and follow-up for public exhibitions and events sponsored by the School held on-site, off-site or online, as well as School-wide events as assigned by the Dean such as Commencement, Open House, Year End Show and Exhibition Openings
Responsibilities
Oversees all aspects of GSAPP Exhibitions and Public Programs, including researching and selecting international architecture firms, historic documents, or exhibitions for possible loan. Performs research on architects, artists, historic precedents, working methods, global practices and specific projects, as well as the locations of work and documents, photographic sources, and other references.
Responsible for arranging loans, registrarial work, record-keeping and installations. Coordinates and schedules work to be done within the School and without in such areas as conservation, photography, public information, matting and framing, construction, lighting, etc. Conducts daily inspection of the works on view in temporary exhibitions and assists with necessary follow-up arrangements.
Performs work in relation to care of the objects and arranges for custodial, registration, and preparation work as required in the maintenance of the exhibitions and objects in gallery, GSAPP spaces, and storage areas. (55%)
Responsible for researching, planning, publicizing, and managing the execution and follow-up for public exhibitions and events sponsored by the School held on-site, off-site, or online, as well as School-wide events as assigned by the Dean such as Commencement, Open House, Year End Show and Exhibition Openings.
Manages all publicity and related assets for events; generates communication strategy and manages production and dissemination of print or digital materials, manages mailing lists, updates School and University calendars, collaborates with designers to produce relevant assets, and develops tools and strategies to engage the student body. (15%)
Works with the Communications and Events Office to write materials and articles for the GSAPP website, promotion, and other publications. Handles curatorial inquiries from faculty, scholars, administrators, staff, researchers, press, the public and other stakeholders. Networks with peers at other universities, museums, and architecture galleries to foster collaborations. (5%)
Responsible for curatorial staff in all areas of their responsibilities including administrative work in the context of curatorial functions, installations, annual appraisals and disciplinary matters. (5%)
Works with the Sr. Associate Dean of Administration & Faculty Affairs on the Schools Exhibition???s and Events budget planning, forecasting and reporting. (5%)
Performs other related duties, assignments, and/or special projects as assigned. (15%)
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor???s degree and/or its equivalent required. Four to six years??? related experienced required.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, team productivity tools (Basecamp, Slack), and other standard office procedures and equipment.
Willing and capable of traveling internationally. Able to work independently.
Must have an awareness of international architecture firms, trends, and emerging practitioners. Experience working and/or living abroad preferred. Ability to pursue potential acquisitions sourced from internationally based firms, galleries, and dealers, working both autonomously and collaboratively with colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
Master???s degree in architecture or architectural history preferred.
