POSITION DETAILS
The Communications and Marketing Department at Hunter College is looking for an experienced writer and editor. This position reports directly to the AVP of Communications & Marketing. In addition to the duties listed in the CUNY Title Overview, the Communications Publications Editorial Manager???s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners to help ensure consistency and alignment with School and University messaging, brand, core values and school-wide priorities.
Represent Hunter College on various campus-wide communications committees and working groups.
Research, edit, write and develop visual narrative both in print and online to support strategic initiatives.
Conceptualize, create, and spearhead delegated commissions, including but not limited to, recruitment campaigns, student stories, faculty profiles, national day celebrations, annual publications, press releases and special events.
Manage the delivery and quality of communications through Hunter's main website, email, digital screens, CUNY Alert/ emergency messaging and social media platforms for the college, including accounts of the college President.
Manage team of writers and photographers, ensuring stories are assigned and covered and photos and copy are handed in on time.
Manage photo and writing content libraries; Assist with managing photo, video and story databases.
Assist with producing audio/visual content across the College communications channels as needed.
Coordinate production of written materials while adhering to journalistic standards for fact-finding, research, verification, and style.
On-Campus presence required
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.
The ideal candidate will possess many of the following qualities, skills, and experiences:
Impeccable judgment and discretion, including the ability to balance competing priorities with diplomacy and grace;
A sophisticated understanding of the dynamics of diversity, equity, and inclusion and how they impact our work;
Broad communications experience across a variety of marketing and comms platforms, including but not limited to web, email, e-newsletters, apps, video, podcasts, and events;
Strong organizational skills; thrives at creating clarity through an organized, methodical, repeatable approach to program management;
Able to work quickly, accurately, and diplomatically under pressure;
Excellent proofreading and research skills;
Video and video editing skills are a plus
Sharp-eyed editing skills and excellent photography skills are a must.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Oversees implementation of communications programs and produces communications in all media to meet a variety of College needs
Provides creative direction for publications and marketing materials, such as catalogs, annual reports, brochures, direct mail packages, print advertising and other marketing materials
Works with College clientele (faculty, administrators, and student representatives) to understand their communications objectives, select appropriate messages, formats, and distribution methods, set production timelines, and establish appropriate editorial and design approaches
Provides creative direction and supervision to external and/or internal creative resources such as writers, photographers, illustrators and graphic designers
Ensures consistent application of standards and guidelines for College materials, such as graphic identity standards
Manages production activities, including creating printing specifications and arranging procurement of services, managing work flows, and production schedules, and assuring a quality finished product
Prepares sensitive and high-priority communications such as speeches for use by senior management
Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience ($67,784 - $110,641) .
