Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Athletics Communications Assistant / Public Relations and Marketing Specialist II (T0010). This person will be part of the Longwood University Marketing & Communications team and assist the staff in promoting Longwood University and engaging a range of constituents.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Contribute to the University Marketing & Communication's staff's mission of promoting Longwood University and engaging constituents, including as a media contact for Longwood athletics programs
Generate feature stories, video and other unique coverage and content in both traditional mediums and social media
Produce press releases and other media content for Longwood University media channels, including LongwoodLancers.com, Longwood.edu, Longwood Magazine and social media
Expand Longwood's reach to local and national media markets by coordinating media requests and pitching story ideas to relevant publications and outlets
Staff home and selected away events
Maintain historical records
Assist the university marketing and athletics communications staffs with additional duties
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related combination of training and work experience
Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software, Microsoft Office, The Automated Scorebook and NCAA Genius
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as meet time sensitive deadlines
Demonstrated ability to safely lift 25 lbs., unassisted
Additional Information:
This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary wage position limited to an average of 15 to 20 hours per week and 1500 hours maximum per work year, a combination of working remotely and in the CVW offices on the Longwood University campus. Pay band 3. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits do not accompany this position. A successful criminal background investigation is required.
