The Center for RNA Biomedicine is seeking an experienced and dynamic staff member with a commitment to contributing to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for all members of our community.
This position will assist primarily with marketing and communications projects relating to the research, engagement, and outreach across the RNA Center. This position will work with the Communications Manager to oversee efforts to promote the Center's mission and engage with key stakeholders, and assist in the development and growth of the RNA research community of faculty, students, and researchers. The position will also work closely with the Program Manager to coordinate and document fundraising efforts across the Center.

This is a term-limited position through June 30, 2025. This position may be extended based on overall performance, the availability of work and the availability of funding for the RNA Center.
Working alongside the Program and Communications Managers, this role will serve to help identify, develop, and launch new projects relating to the outreach of the Center for RNA Biomedicine, in addition to the improvement and maintenance of existing platforms and methods of communication (including a weekly newsletter, annual magazine, and active social media accounts). Copywriting and editing, as well as light graphic design, will also be required. The ideal candidate will have experience translating complex scientific information for a general audience, with an understanding of philanthropic storytelling in order to garner both internal and external support.
(65%) Project management, implementation:
Working with the Communications Manager, assists with the design, coordination, and execution of communications through multiple engagement channels, including:
Email marketing to internal and external audiences
Printed marketing materials
Social media presence
Paid electronic advertising
Assists with production and distribution of written and visual marketing materials
Creates/curates content and develops audiences segments
Monitors and reports on metrics relating to Center-produced materials
Offers guidance and feedback on projects directly pertaining to fundraising efforts
Produces and/or assists with ad-hoc projects on an as-needed basis, included but not limited to: graphic design, video editing, and electronic presentations
(30%) Project coordination:
Manages timelines, deadlines, marketing calendars, etc and keeps team on track for success
In tandem with the current Administrative Coordinator, offers support for overflow of administrative duties, most directly as they pertain to communication projects
(5%) Participation and other duties:
Participates in team-level, department-level, and organizational meetings
Performs other duties as assigned, including relevant special projects for the Program Manager and other members of the RNA Center Leadership Team
Bachelor's degree with two to fours years in a marketing and/or communications role
Experience in social media management, website design, and digital marketing
Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal communication, written communication, and collaborative skills with a commitment to creating a positive work environment
Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks
Ability and desire to work independently and show initiative, as well as collaboratively in a team setting
Innovative and creative thinker
Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and diplomacy
3+ years in a marketing or communications role preferred
Passion for the University of Michigan
Experience with philanthropic storytelling
Background, interest, and/or experience in foundational sciences

The salary range for this position is $40,700 to $50,800. A higher salary may be possible for well qualified candidates.
