About the Internship
The Center’s Marketing and Communications interns work within the marketing and communications department to promote activities at the Center through a variety of integrated campaigns and activities, including online advertising, direct marketing, public relations, and email communications. The Communications and Public Relations Intern provides support as needed with copy editing, collaborating and brainstorming with the Marketing team on campaign ideas and strategy for the Influencer program, drafting press releases, managing public relations and media hits, being involved with coordinating and implementing special events internally and externally, and clerical duties as needed
Segerstrom Center’s Summer Internship Program is designed to provide opportunities to individuals from diverse backgrounds and/or those who are members of a group that is underrepresented in our industry. Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee the administration and maintenance of communication channels and tools.
Assist in implementing internal and external communications strategies, including tactical planning, writing, and execution for projects and programs
Some job duties include writing press releases, staffing internal and external press events, handling media inquiries, in-house photography, calendar listings for press releases, and media pitches.
Identifying and researching new media targets and feature sections to expand our media opportunities.
Assisting in the creation and maintenance of calendars, project tracking worksheets, and other internal PR assets
Owning the updates for our master media distribution list and media coverage tracker
Participating in brainstorms for upcoming events, campaigns & product releases, and in agency meetings/relations
Drafting pitches for lifestyle media; pitching media on a case-by-case basis
Drafting press releases and pitch media on case-by-case basis
Scanning for media opportunities in local and national newspapers
Owning the updates and reorganization of our internal drive and assets
Qualifications
Working towards and/or have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field
Minimum one year communications experience that ideally included communication planning, research and evaluation, writing and editing for a variety of mediums, basic project management and building media relationships
Proficient with all Microsoft Office programs.
Excellent writing and copy-editing skills
Team-player who is highly self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Applicants with previous internships or related experience in marketing and communications will receive additional consideration, as will those currently enrolled in a 4-year accredited college/university with a major in Marketing, PR, Communications, Advertising, or a related field
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be enrolling in college, currently enrolled in college or a recent graduate
Must be available to work all hours listed below in person

Flex schedule for evening or weekend events i.e. press nights, junkets, plaza events etc.
