POSITION DETAILS
The CUNY Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) works in partnership with the University?s academic and administrative offices and the 25 colleges to promote CUNY?s unique mission and transformative role as an engine of social mobility. The office includes eight divisions: Media Relations, Creative, Social Media, Marketing, Multimedia, University Events, CUNY TV and Citizenship Now! Together, the teams manage all aspects of press and public relations, editorial content, art design, publishing, social media, advertisement, web development, TV, video, and podcast production to tell the story of the premier urban public university in the United States.
The Multimedia Photographer/Videographer is responsible for capturing and creating engaging content in the form of photos, videos, and podcasts to reflect and amplify the University?s mission, its faculty, students and various stakeholders. The incumbent will develop and edit a wide variety of photographic content including portraiture, event photography and photojournalism to be published via the University?s social media channels, website, and in print. Video and audio production functions include studio and field production in the form of university news, student and faculty features, PSA?s, digital ads, and podcasts. In addition, they will assist with the operation and maintenance of the video content library. The position directly reports to the Director of Multimedia in the Office of Communications and Marketing.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Conduct photo shoots, photograph university news and events, and edit photos ensuring they adhere to standards set by Art Director.
Video and audio production, including camera, lighting, and microphone setup as well as troubleshooting.
Video and audio post-production, which includes editing videos and podcasts, audio enhancement, color correction, and grading as well as adding motion graphics.
Assist with photo and video asset management.
Encode/transcode audio and video assets ensuring they adhere to proper guidelines (specs and formats) for social media and the web.
Assist with equipment inventory.
Assist with uploading and organizing content on university?s YouTube channel.
Organize photos taken at shoots into CUNY?s photo archive system.
Work collaboratively with various CUNY offices and programs on shotlists and acquiring deliverables.
Ensure photoshoots are conducted professionally, with a welcoming and inclusive environment for all subjects being photographed/filmed including students, staff, faculty, alumni, and other stakeholders.
Work closely with the Creative Director and Creative Team on promotional campaigns, advertising, and other projects catered towards the University?s recruitment & admissions.
NOTE :
Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred:
Degree in a related field preferably in video production, film, visual communications or related discipline and at least 2 years of photography and video production experience
Knowledge of:
Photographic techniques, principles, and digital equipment
Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Media Encoder)
Lighting techniques/concepts with the ability to operate and set up lighting equipment
Knowledge and experience with a variety of video cameras (e.g.: ENG, Digi-Cinema) as well as a wide range of camera lenses
Ability to:
elevate video content though creative camera work and editing
Work alone or as part of a team, well organized and able to communicate clearly
Troubleshoot issues with software as well as camera, lighting, and audio equipment
Meet deadlines
Proficiency in video color correction /grading
Experience with:
Media asset management
Content management systems such as WordPress

Creates content utilizing one or more types of media (e.g., photography, video, audio, and web technologies)
Coordinates pre-production, production and post-production activities
Designs, edits, and uploads content to internal and external sites and programs
Maintains archives, materials, and project documentation
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range is $57,517 to $60,39 4, commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
