GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the supervision of the MBAC Assistant Director, the MBAC Photographer will be responsible for capturing high-quality photos and videos of participants engaging in a variety of watersports activities at MBAC. In addition, the role also includes creating content for our social media channels, website, and marketing materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions
Capture authentic, candid moments that showcase the impact and energy of MBAC programming, bringing our story to life through compelling content.
Capture high-quality photos and videos of youth campers participating in watersports such as surfing, wakeboarding, sailing, paddling, and more.
Review, select, edit, and upload camper photos daily
Create short-form video content showcasing camp highlights, behind-the-scenes footage, and camper experiences
Capture high-quality photos and videos of watersport class and rental customers
Categorize and organize photo and video library for future use in online and print materials
Produce photos and videos of both candid and arranged photo shoot opportunities
Assist with blog content and social media posts while highlighting MBAC stories and happenings
Assist with organized photo and video shoots for use in informational or marketing materials
Ensure timely turnaround of content for posting and sharing across various platforms
Stay up-to-date with trends in photography, videography, and social media content creation
Assist with youth summer camp check-in and other administrative duties as needed. Will also assist with other related duties as assigned.
Customer Service and Collaboration
Collaborate with the Assistant Director to ensure content aligns with the brand's voice and overall marketing strategy.
Provides outstanding customer service to camp participants and their families
Work collaboratively with other departments to support daily operations and clean up
Maintains positive and collaborative working relationships with various A.S. and University departments
Safety
Ensures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first priority, and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies
Adheres to Associated Students' Code of Safe Practices
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum & Preferred Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire
Education:
High School Diploma
Marketing or Art majors preferred
Priority consideration will be given to current SDSU or UCSD students
Experience:
Demonstrated experience in photography and videography, with a strong portfolio of images or videos captured
Proficient in photo and video editing software (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar)
Strong understanding of social media platforms and trends (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.), including best practices for posting and engagement
Two years photography experience with DSLR equipment
Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor shooting environment.
Experience with high volume photo workflow preferred
One year social media or blog authoring experience preferred
A passion for watersports or experience in the watersports industry is preferred
License & Certification Requirements:
Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding (must be obtained within the first month of employment - Available at MBAC)
FBI, DOJ, and LiveScan fingerprint clearance and third party background check
Current valid driver's license
Trainings:
Anti-Harassment Training (Must be completed within 30 days of hire)
Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Training (Must be completed within 30 days of hire)
Gender Awareness Training (Must be completed within 30 days of hire)
MBAC All Staff Training
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Produce photos of youth campers daily for distribution
Organize weekly photo and video content for distribution and future use
Produce short weekly compilation of video clips
Work independently with minimal supervision
Prioritize tasks and meet all deadlines
Produce high-quality content consistent with MBAC culture and branding

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience with Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premiere but training will be provided to qualified candidates.
Proven photography skills and experience relating to creating content for social media use.
Experience with DSLR cameras is preferred.
Blog authoring experience is preferred.
Experience editing short video segments.
Must be able to work productively with little or no supervision.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate and communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, colleagues, and guests.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide diversity of people and support San Diego State University Associated Students' values and mission.
SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a part-time seasonal position. Some hours may be needed outside of summer. Flexibility and willingness to work long or unusual hours, including weekends with high demand during summer. Must be fully available June-August.

The work environment will involve exposure to salt water, cold water, sun, wind, rain, weather, sand, seaweed, sea grass, ocean currents, sea creatures, breaking waves, and other outdoor elements. Job requirements may include getting in the water in the bay or ocean, riding on boats or other watersports equipment. At other times may require working in an office/computer workstation environment.

Physical requirements include but are not limited to: swimming, swimming in rough and deep water, walking, running, walking or running over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying loads. Must be able to swim at least 550 yards, dive at least 10 feet deep, swim with a 10 pound object for at least 20 yards, and tread water for at least 2 minutes. Must be able to watch and supervise groups of students in the ocean and/or bay while coaching technique and supervising safety. Must be able to recognize and respond to emergencies and prevent injuries or drowning.

Reports to the MBAC Assistant Director
Works closely with the Youth Programs & Events Supervisor, Youth Camp Program Assistant, Youth Camp Administrator, and Youth Camp Counselors
EMPLOYMENT CATEGORY: Part-Time, MBAC Range I, Step I - Starting Rate: $17.75/hour
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with Associated Students.
