ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF INTERIOR DESIGN
The Department of Interior Design in the College of Design at Iowa State University (ISU) invites outstanding applicants for one full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the open rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 16, 2023. We are seeking a colleague with a strong spirit of collaboration in supporting and advancing the departmentâs vision.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Applicants must demonstrate pedagogical competency and scholarship, or potential for scholarship, in one or more areas of specialization. For example, but not limited to:
Digital visualization and 3D fabrication
Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality
Interior design history
Lighting design
Building construction and technology
Studio specialization/practice in hospitality, residential, or experiential design.
The position offers opportunities to work with undergraduate and graduate students, as well as the possibility of teaching in the College of Designâs interdisciplinary programs. Responsibilities include: teaching design studios, large lectures, and seminar courses; maintaining an active record of creative research and scholarship in interior design related areas; advising undergraduate students; mentoring and teaching graduate students, and participating in service activities within the department, college, and university.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal Degree in Interior Design/Interior Architecture or Design Related Discipline (Ph.D., M.F.A., M. Arch., or equivalent)
Evidence of teaching experience or professional practice
For consideration for the appointment of tenure at the Associate Professor rank, an applicant must possess experience and evidence of scholarly credentials that meet the tenure and professional rank standards of ISU and its peer institutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated evidence of national and/or international scholarship.
NCIDQ certified or eligible.
University level teaching of 1-3 years or more.
Professional practice experience in interior design or related discipline(s).
Innovative pedagogy, including the use of emerging technology to enhance learning.
LEED, WELL, EDAC certification, or other relevant certification(s).
Program Description:
The Department of Interior Design is a vibrant program in the College of Design at Iowa State University, along with Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Art and Visual Culture, Landscape Architecture, and Community and Regional Planning. Interdisciplinary design experience is highly regarded. The department offers CIDA accredited BFA in Interior Design, and MFA and MA in Interior Design.
