The Stanford Solutions Science Lab is looking for a UX/UI product designer for our CDC-funded CORD 3.0 Childhood Obesity Solutions Team
The Stanford Solutions Science Lab's state-of-the science-driven approach is embedded in decades of research on our proven and effective Stanford Pediatric Weight Control Program (SPWCP) https://www.stanfordchildrens.org/en/service/pediatric-weight/program/overview. You will be a crucial member of a collaborative team of dedicated and experienced health, nutrition and behavior change experts, medical researchers, data scientists and communication specialists to design solutions, hit milestones and reach goals. As a CORD 3.0 team member, you will be responsible for framing the end-to-end experience for youth, their families, and partner members who will use the platform to deliver the content to families. You will lead concept ideation, design, and prototyping, presenting ideas to other team members and working with interface and back-end developers to ensure data are used for compelling interfaces, visualizations, and dashboards for multiple audiences. We're looking for a dedicated and talented designer with a passion for balancing the complexities of consumer software development with multifaceted customer engagement and novel interface and back-end interactions and meeting data privacy and security needs. The UX/UI Product designer will serve as oversite manager, technical lead, and programmer on a specified range of data-based projects, including front end and back end sub-projects that compose the core of the CORD 3.0 project. You will think and research creatively about what differing users need and turn those needs into absorbing user experiences that lead to behavior change.
Duties include:
- Ideate, design, prototype, implement, and manage web-based applications, databases, and interfaces from initial design and architecture through development, test, and deployment
- Implement and maintain content management systems, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and creation of Stanford-specific modules. Develop and deploy upgrade/migration plans for content management systems.
- Perform web platform analytics; identify and work in collaboration with departments and units to resolve strategic and university-wide problems.
- Develop and deploy web applications and client-side web interface components that interact with relational database management systems that integrate with Stanford's web, authentication, and authorization infrastructure.
- Evaluate and implement new programming languages and technologies. Provide life-cycle management for software and code.
- Design and document data structures, architecture, and process flows for websites, web-based applications, and databases.
- Research, evaluate, and enforce web standards for usability and accessibility. Develop and enforce Stanford programming and application design standards.
- Conduct security reviews of applications, ensure security standards meet Stanford HIPPA requirements and provide maximal data security protections for users.

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience in UX/UI product design or a combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite
- Familiarity with accessibility standards such as WCAG and ADA
- In-depth knowledge of both qualitative & quantitative user research mythologies, user testing and usability testing
- Expert level knowledge of front-end development languages and ability to hand code HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Ability to design and manage relational databases
- Ability to design and integrate complex web enterprise systems
- Familiarity with browser devices and platform differences and idiosyncrasies, and ability to develop workarounds to accommodate specialized user/constituency needs and device platforms
- Knowledge for interpreting user research data and site analytics to make data-informed design decisions
- Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch, or InDesign
- Experience of working in an agile iterative environment
