Position Summary:
The person in this position is a consulting writer and editor on the Public Relations team at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). In this role, you will work with the Public Relations team and others in Communication Services. A primary focus will be supporting the media relations function, both the person in the acting role and any new hire who may be brought into the SEI. You will likely be asked to write, edit, and manage deliverables related to media and public relations. You will work collaboratively with SEI technical and operational staff. You thrive in a dynamic environment, respond quickly and with composure to rapidly changing priorities, and handle multiple deliverables concurrently.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in professional writing, English, journalism, communications, or equivalent, with 5-8 years of experience working as a technical writer, reporter, public relations or public affairs specialist, or equivalent combination of training or experience.
Willingness to come to the SEI Pittsburgh office or CMU campus to support the SEI's overall mission.
You will be subject to a background check and must be eligible to work in the United States without Visa sponsorship.
Duties:
Support SEI media relations by consulting on best practices with anyone now assigned as primary POC to handle media relations at the SEI.
Work collaboratively on public relations deliverables, including handling multiple writing tasks at a time.
Maintain regular communication with the Communication Services management team.
Work with various groups within the SEI to develop ideas and content for these deliverables.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent planning, writing, and substantive editing skills.
Strong organizational, time management, project management, and social skills.
Ability to work with minimal or no supervision and participate in team decision making.
Ability to meet deadlines and function successfully in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word.
Desired Experience:
Master's degree in a writing-related field.
Experience in public relations in an academic or technical research setting.
Experience with public relations and marketing writing for a highly technical or DoD audience.
